10 Reasons To Lose Just 10 Pounds

[one_half]10 Reasons To Lose Just 10 Pounds
Recently I received an overwhelming response of negative feedback from my recent post on social media…….
“My workout for the day. I used to blast through 30 sets of stairs prior to pregnancy/weight gain. Today just 10 sets was BRUTAL! Life was so much smoother before I packed on theses LB’s! To everyone out there trying to lose weight keep pushing! Life is so much easier just 10 pounds lighter…I know it…I’m living it!! From bending over to lacing up my shoes, to working out! And this is only the beginning for me!!”

My message was misconstrued. So this months newsletter is to offer some clarity.

Friends, listen….I know I am going to gain weight…it’s inevitable….I’m 6+ months pregnant and I am very happy about that. What I was trying to get across is this: There are people out there NOT pregnant, and choosing to be overweight (yes it’s a choice). What baffles me even more are the people doing nothing about it. The extra weight is uncomfortable – bottom line.

A better choice of words for social media should’ve been: “Who would have thought an extra 10 pounds would make such a difference in my stamina and daily activity?”

Which brings me to the the following:

Fact: In 1960, the average American woman weighed 140 pounds and the average American man weighed 160 pounds. Today the average American woman weighs nearly 165 pounds and the average man 191 pounds!!! If we continue at this rate, in the next 50 years, women will weigh on average 190 pounds and men will weigh 220 pounds! We are so much better than this!

1. A Lower Cholesterol Level
Ten pounds of weight loss can lower cholesterol by more than 10%.

2. Lower Blood Pressure
Losing 10 pounds will decrease your blood pressure.

3. Reduced Risk for Heart Attacks
Just 10 pounds of weight loss can result in a greater than 50% risk reduction for heart attacks.

4. Reduced Risk for Dementia
Belly fat contains cells that release inflammation-causing chemicals in the body, which can cause memory loss and increase your chances of developing dementia.

6. Reduced Joint Pain
Being overweight puts huge pressure on your joints. For each extra pound of excess weight on your body, you add 3 times that amount of pressure on your knees. This means that 10 extra pounds equates to 30 pounds of pressure grinding down. And when walking up stairs, multiply your extra weight by 7.

A 10 pound weight loss over 10 years may result in as much as a 50% decrease in your odds of developing osteoarthritis.

7. Reduced Risk for Cancer
The risk for many types of cancers declines when you lose weight, but it’s particularly true for breast and uterine cancer.

8. Reduced Risk for Diabetes
A weight loss of 10 pounds can reduce your chance of getting diabetes by 60%.

9. Improved Sex Life
Erectile dysfunction can be a problem for as many as 80% of obese and overweight men.

10. Taking Less Medications
Losing just 10 pounds could save $58 billion annually in the United States.
